Kingsgrove is a suburb in Sydney’s South. It has a large community with a population of 11,516.

History

Hannah Laycock, Quartermaster Thomas Laycock’s wife derived the suburb name. Laycock named her farm “Kings Grove” to owner Governor King. The name merged into the current name.

After WWII, growth in industry continued to strengthen. A large group of Mediterranean settlers resides in the wider area today.

The first inn of the area, Man of Kent on modern day Kingsgrove Road opened in 1850. Evan Evans, the licensee, was a former sea captain.

The Thomas Smithson family manufactured tobacco in a facility near Stoney Creek Road.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Kingsgrove boasts a variety of boutique restaurants and shops. It is an example of strong Southern European culture. The area is close to some of the Inner West’s best private and government schools. As such, it is popular with families.
