SMART-NT offers four course options to improve both driver skill and hazard assessment levels whilst driving a 4 wheel drive.
Since it's establishment in 1993 by former N.T. Police Driving Instructor, Gary Pendlebury, SMART-NT has been delivering training programs to mining companies, private organisations and both NT and federal government departments. SMART-NT now enjoys preferred training provider status with Northern Territory government departments.
SMART-NT provides a number of 4 wheel drive training course options that pro-actively address the safe use of a four wheel drive vehicle on various terrains. These courses have been specially developed to address client needs in the operation of these vehicles; content includes the latest off road technologies and can include defensive driving on dirt roads.
Defensive driving courses provided by SMART-NT concentrate on street survival techniques rather than racing or advanced driving methods. Emphasis is placed on driver behaviour and attitude whilst improving driving skills.
Course content includes:
- Current N.T. traffic legislation requirements Dynamics of a 4 wheel drive
- Driving attitudes
- Defensive driving skills (bitumen and/or dirt)
- Collision avoidance techniques (bitumen and/or dirt)
- Emergency braking techniques (bitumen and/or dirt)
- Skid-roll over avoidancecontrol techniques (bitumen and/or dirt)
- Use of 4 wheel drive recovery equipment.
