FAQs

  • Why choose Ivan Butler?

We are a family owned company and have served the community for 40 years, since 1975. We are not part of a Chain of companies, or any corporate conglomerate. We answer to ourselves and ourselves alone. Our staffs are not required to meet Sales Targets, nor are they on commission. Hence, we believe we offer a much more personalised service, with genuine care and support given to the families we are privileged to serve.

  • What do I do when someone dies?

As Funeral Directors, we are available 24 hours a day to advice on all aspects of funeral service and care. This can happen prior to, or immediately following the death of a loved one.

  • What will the Funeral Director do for me?

It is the responsibility of the Funeral Director to facilitate the transfer of the deceased to our accredited mortuary, day or night, 7 days a week. There are many decisions to consider when dealing with funeral arrangements, and we are here to alleviate the burden for you, and will guide you in arranging an appropriate farewell to celebrate the life of your loved one, that meets the needs of your loved one and your family. We will also advise on relevant legal requirements that may need to be.

  • Why is a Funeral important?

A Funeral is for those who are living. It is a time to farewell, celebrate and give thanks for the life of a loved one who has died. The Funeral is a key part of the grieving process which offers help to the living and helps us on the road to recovery from our loss.

  • Is a viewing necessary?

Apart from the legal requirements of the deceased to be formally identified, the Viewing helps us acknowledge that the death has actually occurred, and helps us to come to terms with the reality and finality of death. It provides the opportunity to take time to express personal thoughts, through talking to the deceased or even holding their hand. We can see that the one who has died is now at peace, especially if they were struggling or suffering in life.

  • What does a funeral cost?

No two funerals cost the same. The cost of a funeral will vary depending on whether Cremation or Burial is the preferred option. Other components that can form part of the funeral include the selected coffin or casket, newspaper notices, flowers, minister/celebrant, doctor's certificates, permits, memorial cards, catering etc. During the course of arranging a funeral, and once the wishes of the family have been established, a more accurate estimate of funeral expenses can be provided.

  • Are you members of a Funeral Directors Association?

Yes, we are Accredited Members of the Australian Funeral Directors Association. Accredited means that we are required to comply with set guidelines and standards for our premises, equipment, vehicles and staff training, ensuring professional standards and service for our clients at all times. We also have an obligation to care for each deceased person with respect and dignity, and deal with our families in a professional, caring and sensitive manner.

  • Do you have a Chapel?

Yes, we have a beautifully appointed Chapel and Lounge facility. Our modern Chapel has seating for 100 plus standing room. Our Chapel and Lounge are both fitted with Audio Visual equipment to enhance the funeral service experience. There is no time limit on the use of our facilities, and service times are carefully planned to ensure no family feels rushed in any way.

  • Can I Pre-Pay my funeral?

Yes, Pre-Paying for your funeral relieves your family of any unnecessary confusion and financial burden regarding funeral expenses. Decisions can be made logically and less emotionally about final expenses, rather than at a time of death. A numbered Pre-Paid Contract is issued, detailing your precise wishes and expenses involved, in order to facilitate provision of the contracted service.

  • What if I don't wish to Pre-Pay my funeral?

The decision to Pre-Pay is of course yours, and you are under no obligation to do so. However, if you choose against this option, you may consider completing our booklet My Personal Wishes, as an appropriate alternative. Your wishes are detailed in the same manner, but without the financial commitment.
